"When the Hummers Stop Humming..." from a 15-year-old

The Hummers are helping to strengthen global warming a lot. The H3 Hummer gets only 14 miles per gallon in the city, and 18 miles per gallon on the highway; Just compare that to the Toyota Prius, which gets 55 miles per gallon in the city and highway. This amazing new vehicle can be fueled on only electricity when driven under 30 miles per hour, and it uses a combination of gasoline and hydrogen when at higher speeds.
Therefore, if the Hummers were completely wiped out, there would be a rapid increase in gas mileages in vehicles around the world.
Although, there are many other decisions that have to be made by American citizens, and the government to wipe out global warming, once and for all.
Every individual can do their part in this fight; it's not just up to the U.S. Govt.

Here's a few tips to get you started: Recycle everything possible, Drive a small, fuel-efficient car, and Walk to places you are traveling to whenever possible.

If you drive a Hummer, consider the damage you are doing to the environment, and then consider what our planet Earth will be like in 50 years if we leave it to its fate.

I'm sending out an SOS about global warming

The following is a copy of an email I sent out to family and friends; it served as the motivation behind my decision to create a blog about global warming and environmental ethics more generally.

In the words of Sting, "I'm sending out an S.O.S!" In my own words, "I'm sending out an S.O.E!" (which means "save our Earth.") NBC aired a special for 22 hours today to raise awareness in the fight towards global warming. There were many different bands playing on 7 continents, which is really awesome...

I know all of you care as much about this vital issue as much as I do, so here are some things you can all do to help with the solution:

1. Don't pollute (*Don't litter; this is why there are garbage cans...)

2. Recycle as much as possible (*Plastics, Papers, Aluminum, Metals, etc.)

3. Support Al Gore and any other organization that is playing a huge role in this fight.

4. Don't take long showers (*This wastes A LOT of water, which is just plain unnecessary; Just don't waste any kind of water.)

5. Do not drive Hummers!!! (*They are evil automobiles that majorly guzzle gas, and no human should ever drive them.

6. Use solar light bulbs.. (*They last 10 times as long as regular light bulbs, and they use a lot less energy too, and they'll save you tons of money.)

7. Drive a Hybrid car (if possible; *preferably a Toyota Prius because it gets up to 50 miles/gallon on the highway, and up to 48 miles/gallon in the city.)

8. Last but most certainly not least: Have faith/hope that our gov't, and the rest of the people on our planet will finally come to their senses and realize once and for all that this problem is a reality, and it won't go away; Pray that they will do the 8 things I listed above because they care as much as all of us do. And spread the word; tell your friends/family about these vital 8 things, and they will understand you, and do them too.

Sincerely,

Sarah the concerned 15-year-old

P.S. Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this, and to do these 8 vital things; every little bit counts; every little bit that each of you do counts a lot, and will not go unnoticed.
